In the midst of Instagram and Pinterest perfection we somehow have this idea that everything should be beautiful. Families perched on a hill top with mountains in the background, perfectly styled wardrobes that coordinate with the long grasses surrounding them… you know, we’ve all seen and admired those images but while getting wrapped up in that vision, we sometimes lose sight of real beauty… the beauty right in front of us every day.

No matter where we shoot, my focus is always going to be on YOU and/or YOUR FAMILY so don’t get too caught up in location. Sure heading out to the mountains is fabulous and tall trees and colours are great but totally not necessary to capture the beauty of your family.

Think back to what you love about old photos. I bet it’s seeing how your parents and grandparents looked and how they interacted with you and each other. Added bonuses were the wallpapers in your home, that picture-patterned velour sofa from the 70’s or your bedroom and piles of toys. Those kind of photos tell stories and carry a lot of memories and meaning.

This my fourth session with this family and we’ve never ventured far from home – often doing a mix of in the home and a simple walk to a nearby park.
