So familiar... | Calgary newborn photographer

I’ve spent a bit of time this week going through old movies and photos of when my boys were young… photos and videos I haven’t looked at in years. One of my favourite families just had a second child. I photographed their first son as a newborn, at 6 months and again at one year and just last week I had the honour of meeting their new little guy and photographing him. The two boys are 20 months apart just like my boys. Their oldest was born in July, just like our oldest and their youngest in March, just like ours. It was pretty neat watching the boys together and how they are as a family of four now. It was all so familiar. I remember how, after just a day in the hospital, I came home and suddenly my oldest (who had been my baby up until then) seemed so big. He felt big when I picked him up, he looked older… he suited that big brother role even though he didn’t quite understand it and how that new baby just fit into an existing family as though he was always there.

Nora

This little sweetheart is almost one and this session marked the last of her Baby Love sessions. Each year when I look back on the amazing families I’ve met and had the chance to photograph this family is top of mind. This was our seventh session together… it has been such an incredible treat watching their two girls grow up. No doubt there are big things in store for them in 2017 and beyond.

Happy New Year everyone – thanks for the love and support. This year is going to be a good one!

Perfect fall evening | Calgary family photographer

I consider myself extremely lucky to do what I do for a living. It’s something I love, something I’m passionate about and allows me to connect with people I otherwise likely wouldn’t have the chance to meet. Families I photograph often become friends, I watch their kids grow, get a peek inside their life at home… it’s all pretty special.

This is my third time photographing this particular family and every time I come away with the biggest smile on my face. Not only are their kids super cute and sweet, they’re just so easy to work with. They invite me into their lives for a couple of hours and just go about their day as if I wasn’t there – allowing me to capture who they really are. That’s not an easy thing to do but these guys do it beautifully. I get to hear stories, shares laughs and see a tiny piece of what their life is like and that’s huge!

A few weeks ago we played in some leaves, went for a walk and hung out by the river… a perfect night. We even spotted a bald eagle!
