Happy New Year!

After a bit of a social media hiatus, I’m back! Hope everyone had a great holiday and I’m looking forward to getting 2018 started. I tried choosing just a few favourite images from the past year to post but had a hard time so here’s a few more than originally intended, along with a huge THANK YOU to everyone for taking the time to read or check my work out online, trust me to create photos for you and your family and for all your support.  ♥️

More fall fun | Calgary family photographer

One of the best parts of my job is getting to see families over and over again. Watching families grow and kids grow… it’s such a treat. I’ve had the pleasure of photographing this family eight times now! These girls make me smile non-stop.

(and Happy fourth birthday to the little girl who started it all.   xo)

Girl tribe | Banff family photos

Five girls… five! And all so very sweet and fun (mom included, that makes six – Dad is the solo male in this tribe).  I’ve had such a great time getting to know this family and photographing their youngest’s first year. This is why I love my job… the people I meet.

Changes | Bragg Creek family photographer

Why is it that when our children are young we capture their every minute. We want to record everything they do. Every cute expression, all the new things they learn, all of their firsts, their friends, their toys. I have albums full of our boys when they were young but something happens as they grow up. For me it was when they were about 8 or 9, the number of pictures I took slowed way down. Don’t get me wrong, I still take photos of them but not near as many as I used to and they’re usually while they’re doing sports or playing an instrument. I rarely pick up my camera around the house anymore or capture them when they’re with their friends. Maybe it’s because they’re not as cute any more. Maybe they don’t want to have a camera in their face 24/7 like they used to… they’re more insecure and more aware. But they’re still growing and changing and I have to remind myself to take pictures because I know in years to come, I’ll want to remember these days just as much as the younger years.

A month or so ago Gillian wrote me and said she wanted a session before her son went off to University. A relaxed session with her family before one of the biggest milestones in her son’s life. Why is it we often overlook this age? It’s so important to keep documenting your family as it grows and changes. Maybe it takes a bit more planning with busy schedules and a bit more effort on everyones part, but it’s so worth it.

Summer evening at the Lake... | Family photos in Banff, Alberta

One of the best things about my job is the people I meet. People who allow me into their homes, their lives and let me tell their story.

This family travelled from New York so we had been in touch for some time before the session and what a treat it was to finally meet them. Not only did they have an adorable little guy to celebrate but it was also their 2nd anniversary!

And have I mentioned I LOVE travelling to the mountains for sessions – just throwing that out there for anyone with a fall shoot booked.
