So 2012... what do you have in store for us? | calgary family photographer

This is going to be a big year. A tough year. An exciting year. A year I both dread and fear but at the same time welcome with open arms.

Why the big deal? Well, we’re moving. And not just an hour or two away like last time, this time we’re moving to Calgary. Yup… a whole new province. So if anyone knows people in Calgary who may want a photoshoot, please spread the word (I’ll be there and ready to shoot by July). Or if you know anything cool about the city… a good hairdresser, babysitter, you name it I’d LOVE to hear it. We’re leaving behind family, friends, contacts, clients, colleagues – all the good stuff – and heading to somewhere where we have to start from scratch. A place we know very few people. But we’re always told not to get too comfortable, that you have to put yourself out there to grow. I’m hoping that’s true. If it wasn’t for our move to Woodstock I may have never ventured into this photography thing but here I am and I love it. Now I’m looking forward to what Calgary has in store for us.

For all my current clients I will be back. I’m coming back for two weddings in 2012 and hope to book a few shoots during those visits. I’ll post the dates and available times as soon as the flights are booked so I can book some shoots as well. If anyone is really interested in a 2012 shoot let me know and I can put you on a contact list to get first choice at a spot during one of my visits. And that said, depending on how quickly our house sells, I may be here until late spring and will try to fit as many shoots in before we move as possible.

In the mean time I’m excited about my ‘Beyond Cheese‘ workshops (and if you haven’t already, check out the contest that could win you a spot) and I’m also planning to do a couple more mentor sessions over the winter months (contact me if interested).

So that’s our big news – I hope everyone else has a new adventure planned for 2012. HAPPY NEW YEAR. I wish you the best of everything!

Now here’s a little look at what made 2011 so special for me…

Christmas 2011

The tree is gone, the presents unwrapped, the LEGO built and games played. It’s over for another year and I actually managed to get the photos done (within just weeks – that’s a huge accomplishment for me seeing as I still have family photos from the spring on my computer I haven’t touched yet!)

more from Pasley Island...

Well I’ve already posted about the gorgeous island and how much I miss it. Still do. Now I’ll share some shots of what brought me there. JinkyArt is a name synonymous with creativity, flair and pure genius when it comes to child photography. Barb Uil, the face behind Jinky, was one of the first photographers I admired just starting out and my admiration hasn’t weaned. That said, it was a thrill to meet Barb who travelled all the way from Australia to give us a peek inside her brilliance. Barb, you truly are amazing and I thank you for your openess and willingness to share. You made a fabulous weekend even more fabulous and I thank you.

Here’s just a peek into how we filled our days…

from top row: wee babe on a beach, same babe attacked by the workshop paparazzi; full day of rain followed by a magnificent double rainbow – it’s real!; a few candids of our host’s boys who reminded me of my own; our gorgeous host Rebecca and her adorable family; more Rebecca and family; Barb and our little ‘fairy’ model; she was so perfect and can you believe that mossy forest?

Dear Pasley Island... | part I

I miss you bunches. Your gorgeous rugged shore, the moss you wore so brilliantly, the deer that stood and listened in on our conversations, the inspiring women that came and met on your land. I miss you. The late nights wrapped in blankets sipping wine and chatting, our amazing host (who I envy so), the trees, the water, the mountains in the distance, the rainbows, the whiskey sours, the delicious food, even the rain and fog. I miss you.

(part II to follow – with a bit of Jinky goodness : )
